Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief for Quantitative Science Studies

Quantitative Science Studies (QSS) is seeking an innovative and dedicated Editor-in-Chief (EIC) or Editorial Team. QSS is the official journal of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI). It publishes theoretical and empirical research on science and the scientific workforce. Emphasis is placed on studies that provide insight into the system of science, general laws of scientific work, scholarly communication, science indicators, science policy, and the scientific workforce.

The mission of the new editorial team of QSS will be to maintain the values of the journal as an open, transparent, and innovative journal, pushing the boundaries of the scholarly communication system. The EIC/Editorial Team will be responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, and efficiency of the peer review process and maintaining productive communication with the publisher (MIT Press) and Society (ISSI).

Applications will be accepted from single individuals for the position of EIC or by groups, proposing a collaborative editorial model. All applicants should have an excellent track record in publishing in the field, a demonstration of commitment to service, and strong collaborative skills. Ideal candidates will have previous editorial experience. In addition, the EIC or members of the Editorial Team must be and remain members of ISSI in good standing during the term of office. For EIC applicants, it is anticipated that an editorial team will be convened after the appointment, in consultation with the ISSI Board. 

The EIC and Editorial Team reports to the ISSI Board. The appointment period lasts for four years, beginning April 1, 2023 and expiring March 31, 2027. The EIC/Editorial Team assumes responsibility for the content of the journal. Together with the Editorial Board, the EIC/Editorial Team will make decisions about the regularity of publishing, size of the journal, types of permissible content, and the organization of peer review. The Editorial Board should meet in person at the biennial conference of the Society. In addition, the EIC/Editorial Team must meet with the ISSI Board regularly to provide updates and discuss issues related to the journal. 

Applications should provide a CV/resume, as well as a cover letter detailing their experience and vision for the journal. Applications will be accepted until December 1, 2022 and will be reviewed by the ISSI Board. The selection will be announced in January, 2023.
